Restyled: The Scosha Project

Brooklyn-based designer Scosha brings an heirloom diamond to its final destination.

In 2006, I was given a diamond ring that had belonged to my husband’s aunt. The center diamond was set very high in a rather ornate (for my style) white gold ring. It sparked a long journey of discovery to find just the right setting for it. The diamond was too big to blend into a dainty ring stack, but too small to stand alone as a right hand statement ring.

Fast forward to 2019 when I was introduced to Scosha Woolridge via a mutual friend. Wow – Scosha’s aesthetic was so different from anything else I had in my collection. From my POV, her style is all at once modern and primitive, with luxurious details that make every piece a visual wonder. After 13 years and 6 different settings (including a necklace), I knew the diamond would be best enjoyed in a custom Scosha ring.

Pouring through Scosha’s unique designs, I sought inspo for the new piece and found The Diamond Crown Ring, which would be the starting point. The combination of round and baguette diamonds offered different types of diamond light interactions, and the different setting styles – bar, bezel and bead – came together so well as modern and textured.

“I chose Scosha's unique, seemingly time-worn take on bead setting for texture.”

I had never before explored adding other diamonds – but this time was different. With the addition of two tapered baguettes on each side of the center diamond, they enhanced and drew the eye up. And because rings always spin on my fingers, I wanted more sparkle so no matter how the ring sat, there would always be something interesting to see. So we added some rounds to the sides below the baguettes, and a hidden halo under the center diamond. Yep – this one sparkles from every angle!

My consultation appointment with Scosha to discuss the design was like a meeting of the minds. I shared my excitement over details from her style, while she removed the diamond from its latest solitaire setting.

You might think a combination like this all in one ring might end up like the Homer Simpson car… but in the artistic hands of Scosha, it came together perfectly. The conventional composition of a round diamond with two tapered baguettes – in Scosha’s style, was the perfect blend of raw and refined.

“Raw and refined came together with an unconventional take on the conventional.”

Wearability is a top priority, along with how a ring looks – and feels! This ring scores 10/10 for all three. The center diamond is framed in a bold bezel, set as low as possible for comfort. When the ring spins, it ends up resting with the baguette, round accents and hidden halo in my sightline, which amazingly have become my favorite part of the ring! Its scale on my small hand is perfect as a stand-alone ring, but I’ve also played with a few pairings when the mood to stack hits me.
